Cisco Brothers – Sustainable Luxury

June 2nd, 2010 | Author: Petra

The last company I’ll be showing you in this series of beautiful, sustainable and long lasting furniture is Cisco Brothers.  Based in LA, Cisco Brothers was founded by Cisco Pinedo, a furniture designer with an impressive commitment to quality and to the environment.  In fact, he has been making furniture for 20 years now and was the first to create 100% sustainable furniture furniture.  Here’s how: wood furniture and frames are FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council), adhesives are water based, and there are a variety of green cushion options including natural latex, down, feather or soy-based foams.  Upholstered items are made with natural and organic fabrics (which as I’ll describe in later posts, are not the same).  In addition, in an industry where many factories have been moved to China, Cisco Brothers furniture is proudly made in California.   For those of you who live in New York like me, fortunately you can find his beautiful furniture at ABC Home.

What I love about this furniture is its casual elegance.  Each piece is totally understated but the clean lines and unique design touches mean that they’ll be pieces you’ll love forever.

Since it would take pages for me to post every single piece of beautiful piece of furniture they make, you’ll have to jump to their website to take a look.  But I will leave you with a few shots of the interior of their showroom and some of their newer introductions.  Enjoy!

I love the combination of the crisp white sofa and modern lines of the chairs together with the rustic root sculpture

This is a perfect sectional to curl up on and watch a movie

This is a wonderful glamorous take on a traditional English sofa.  And as you’ll soon learn, I’m a huge fan of anything with nailheads on it!

These beds are beautiful.  I may have found the perfect bed for my bedroom!

Here’s a great view of their High Point Showroom.  You can see how big it is and how many different pieces of furniture they have.  I’ll be following up with a post on Cisco Pinedo’s house in later posts.  Suffice it to say, that his home is just as beautiful as his furniture.

Cisco Brothers: Stylish Sustainable Furniture & Lighting
The Best of High Point Market Spring 2010

The gigantic Cisco Brothers showroom was one of my favorite stops at High Point. A former pantyhose factory outside of the center of town, the showroom is the perfect showplace for the Los Angeles-based company's collection — an artfully industrial backdrop for the entire range of sustainable furnishings that are made in LA.

Founder Cisco Pinedo was the first to create 100% FSC-certified furniture — and they continue to improve upon that foundation:
• water based glues
• natural latex, down, feathers, or soy-based foam cushion options
• vegetable dyed leather
• made in Los Angeles

CISCO BROTHERS MUST-SEES
• Raw-edge leather slipcovers
• raw-edge leather chairs with nailhead trim
• new lighting collection
• extensive range of ottoman poufs

Style and Sustainability from Cisco Brothers

Welcome to the final day of our  Soy Style: Did you KnOH? contest. To enter the contest, all you need to do is read the post below, leave a comment, and you’re entered to win $100!

Anyone who has visited a Cisco Brothers showroom knows that you don’t have to sacrifice style for sustainable furniture. From unique shapes, surprising textures, and bold colors, Cisco Brothers furniture is designed to inspire while blending with how people live. Hear from founder Cisco Pinedo about his design philosophy (and check out some fabulous blue chairs!)

Not only is Cisco Brothers furniture about great style, but it is also designed with sustainability in mind. They use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood in their upholstery frames and wood furniture. Cisco offers a variety of cushion options that incorporate natural latex, down, feathers, or soy-based foams. And they use water based glues. Environmental impacts are an integral part of their design process. Take a look at some of their great products.

Cisco Pinedo + Cisco Brothers

Cisco Pinedo + Cisco Brothers

A couple of years ago I bartered with an interior designer client — my graphic design for two of her Cisco Brothers’ chairs. The beauty and comfort of those chairs made me an instant fan. Then I kept noticing blurbs about Cisco popping up in my favorite magazines... Exquisite, sweatshop-free craftsmanship, devotion to South Central LA neighborhood development, serious commitment to sustainability. I was am impressed.

Cisco Brothers’ founder, Cisco Pinedo, arrived here at age 13 from Jalisco, Mexico. He learned to upholster furniture as a teenager and fell in love with the craft. Today, Cisco has a handful of retail showrooms including a design gallery at ABC Home Furnishings in NYC. Pinedo’s belief is that furniture should be made around the owner’s needs and that it should last a lifetime.

Here are photos of Cisco Pinedo’s home. The house is all about gathering. It’s a place to welcome friends and hang with family. Several walls were removed for a more open layout. Loads of crisp white combined with natural wood. It’s a peaceful interior, an extremely personal space, and very warm and comfortable.
